Hollow metal door frames are typically made of 16 GA steel and come either welded or knock-down (KD).  Welded hollow metal frames have a 3HR fire rating.  Knock-down hollow metal frames are labeled for 90 minutes.  A knock-down hollow metal frame is primarily used on an interior application where a wall is already in place.  A welded frame can be used for new construction or replacement, generally in exterior masonry openings and interior commercial build-outs.

Seidl Door & Glass Hollow Metals is conscientious about it’s customers, so as a courtesy to our customers special fasteners are included to accommodate the application for which the product will be used.  In addition, we stock the heavier powered door closers with a heavy-duty arm and parallel arm bracket, dust covers are included. All door closers comply with ADA and meet barrier-free accessibility requirements. Our door closers are available in Aluminum (689) and Bronze – Dark Duranodic (695).

Door closers can have a dual function when fitted with certain accessories. A door closer with hold-open arm will keep a door in the open position when actuated until released. You might see this on the rear entrance to a store where the door is normally locked. When deliveries are made the hold-open feature on the door closer is actuated for convenience.

We carry two types of door closers with hold-open functionality:

• Friction type (the most common type of door closer) which works by opening a door beyond a certain degree of egress.
